Overall Experience

Going to London was like experiencing a whole other side of the world and myself. I learned so much about London, fashion, and myself. I made friends with amazing people that I continue to talk to. In the end, I felt like a Londoner myself.

Learning experience

The most valuable learning experience I encountered was to never regret going outside my comfort zone. As a study abroad student I found myself alone a lot. It can be hard to get out and do things when you know you are going to be alone but I forced myself to do it anyway. Every time I was glad I did. Even though I was alone I was experiencing amazing parts of London and could take my time taking everything in.

Memorable experience

My most memorable experience was pushing through the tears as I ate the most amazing noodle dish at a Korean BBQ. A good friend I made took me there and ordered this spicy noodle dish. I hate spicy food and am very sensitive to it. These noodles were so good I didn't care that my nose was running and tears filled my eyes. She laughed and told me to stop but it was so good I couldn't.

What did you not expect?

I took a class called "Start a fashion label," and through taking this class I found out I do not want to start my own label. This class helped put in perspective the logistics of starting one's label and how much work and money it takes. I want more stability in my career and will not be starting my own label.

What advice would you give?

Just do it. Understand that an opportunity like this will likely not come again. I have never heard someone say I wish I did not study abroad. I only hear I wish I DID!

How has this experience impacted your life?

Studying abroad in London impacted how I feel about my own personal brand and helped me evaluate what I want for myself in the future. I have evolved my views from wanting to own my own business to working for an established company to grow. My educational goals have stay the same but from this I have been able to better tailor what I intend to get out of my degree at Iowa State. I hope one day to work and live in London.

How did you learn about this experience?

I learned about this international opportunity by browsing through Iowa State's many programs.
