Gallery and Exhibitions

The Textiles and Clothing Museum has several spaces for students and faculty to display exhibitions curated with objects from the permanent collection. All of our exhibition spaces are free and open to the public.

The Mary Alice Gallery

The Mary Alice Anderson Reinhardt Gallery is located in 1015 Morrill Hall. It has a total of 504 square feet and includes a dramatically curved wall of glass forming a large display area. Mary Alice was an alumna of the Textiles and Clothing program (1949), and her family funded the gallery in her honor. The gallery is open Monday through Friday from 10am to 4pm and is closed on university holidays and for the months of August and January to allow for new exhibition installation. Summer hours may vary.

Additional Displays

The Textile Conservation Lab window is located in the Peterson Gallery on the lower-level Morrill Hall 003 hallway. Visitors can use this window to see work being done in the conservation lab or displays featuring rotating exhibits curated by student/faculty collaborations. This display window is viewable year-round during Morrill Hall building hours, typically Monday through Friday from 7am to 7:30pm.

The LeBaron Display is currently under construction and will be located in LeBaron Hall. This display case will feature rotating exhibits curated by student/faculty collaborations and will also double as a window through which visitors will be able to see into the LeBaron Collections Storage Facility. This facility is expected to open in 2027.

Fashion and the Fold: Repetitions, Returns, and Reinventions

April – December 2026 | Mary Alice Gallery

This exhibition positions the design of fashion and clothing as fundamentally a practice of folding. Drawing on the work of French philosopher, Gilles Deleuze, ‘the fold’ was used to present a multidimensional view of dress where the past, present, and future overlap and intersect, enriching our understanding of fashion evolution.

This exhibition will be partially uninstalled from May through July to make room for The Fashion Show exhibition.

TFS x TCM : Winning Designs from The Fashion Show, 2026 – Living Gallery

The Fashion Show (TFS) is an annual production at Iowa State University, created and produced entirely by students. As the largest student-run fashion show in the nation, it brings together over 175 students across sixteen committees. This year’s theme, “Living Gallery,” drew inspiration from classical art, where static masterpieces are brought to life. Designers showcased original collections that embodied creativity, craftsmanship, and storytelling. The pieces displayed here were recognized with prestigious awards at The Fashion Show, 2026 which was held on April 18th at Stephens Auditorium.
