Responsibilities

This summer as a retail management intern I worked side by side with my supervisor in the gift shop. I helped with the day to day up keep and also got the chance to go to market with my supervisor. I had the opportunity to meet a lot of vendors and sales reps. I strengthened my visual merchandising skills and worked on different visual displays as well as floor resets all summer.

Accomplishments

My greatest accomplishment during my internship was my buying project. I was able to order and decide what items would be in the gift shop. I met with vendors, kept up communication and had full responsibility for checking them in and creating a visual display. With little guidance from my boss I was able to accomplish my project and executed it to my liking. It was so rewarding because a lot of customers responded well to it and complimented my display and in the 3 weeks my display was out I sold 80% of my merchandise at full price.

What advice would you give?

Don't be afraid of making mistakes at work, you'll probably make a lot of them. It can feel overwhelming to make a mistake and thats okay. Just make sure to know everyone makes them and you can only learn from them.
