My responsibilities include participating in pull-days in the warehouse pulling decor, equipment, and anything else necessary for the event days. I also work on set-up and tear downs for events and weddings, working on arranging centerpieces, putting together floral arches, walls, and many other requirements for the day as well as sitting in on meetings and learning the roles of the team.
My greatest accomplishment was helping put together a floral arch and halo for one of the largest weddings I've participated in. It took several hours to complete them and the most hands-on experience that I got to help create for such an important event.
The greatest lesson I've learned is to not be afraid to ask questions in any situation. In the events and hospitality industry, everything needs to meet a high standard so if you are questioning anything, ask to clarify so it can meet those standards. Another lesson I've learned is to input your opinion and don't be too timid if you have an idea that could work in a situation, people will see that you are trying to produce solutions and express leadership skills.
What advice would you give?
My advice is to not be afraid to speak up, take leadership, offer advice, and be open to criticism. Show your willingness to learn and grow and you will gain so much respect within your workplace.
