With this internship, it was my responsibility to be at each event throughout the duration of the event. I was there to help with set up, tear down, and everything in between. Another project that I completed during my internship was putting together and delivering media press release kits for events. It was my responsibility to act in a professional manner, create meaningful connections, and get as much out of this experience as I possibly could.

My greatest accomplish from my internship experience was feeling confident in what I was doing. Before having any experience it is hard to know exactly what you want to do and if it will be something you will enjoy. After completing my internship and working events like Baconfest, Oktoberfest, Iowa City Block Party, and Water Works Amphitheater Grand Opening, I knew that this was what I am supposed to be doing. The best thing you can do for yourself is to make connections and gain experience and that is my greatest accomplishment throughout my internship.

Learning experience

The greatest I learned from completing my internship is that while a lot of work goes into these events, once it's over, it's over! You may be tired on the day of the event from all the long days prior getting things ready, but when it's time for the event to start and attendees show up you have to be on your A game and still put on the best event for them. These are all things we talked about in class discussions but when you experience it in action you have a whole different view on it.

What advice would you give?

My biggest piece of advice to future students is to take advantage of the amazing experiences that come your way and don't be afraid to reach for the stars. When looking for an internship don't be afraid to apply to ones that are far away from home or ones you don't think you'd ever be hired for. No matter what, you're getting your name out there and you don't know what kind of other great opportunities will come your way because of that. And lastly, utilize the time you have with a company, ask questions, reach out to people, make connections and be as present as possible in your internship.
