Responsibilities

Worked with ambassadors for events such as Iowa Games, State Golf, ISU Orientation, RAGBRAI, and more. Sat in on meetings with coworkers related to upcoming events. Scheduled shifts for volunteers and ambassadors, worked with outside companies to help with their events in and around Ames.

Accomplishments

My greatest accomplishment was working with RAGBRAI. We've been planning this event to stay overnight in Ames throughout my whole internship experience (February-July). I helped out with campgrounds, so I would email riders and teams and send them a map of where they would be staying and answer any questions they had. On the day of, we will be working over 14 hours, helping with things such as road closures, downtown concerts, shuttle stops, the bike route, and more.

Learning experience

One of the greatest lessons I learned from my experience is to plan far ahead and don't wait for things the last minute. As we planned RAGBRAI throughout these past 5 months, we also planned many other events as well as talked about what we are still needing to do for upcoming events, even ones 3-5 years in advance.

What advice would you give?

Some advice would be to put yourself out there and apply for any internship that sounds interesting to you. You'll always have a learning experience no matter what you do, rather it be finding what you love or finding what you don't want to do as a future career.
