Responsibilities

My responsibilities include helping the culinary team prepare for and execute various types of events ranging from fine dining dinners, tasting events and venue openings. In addition I help with recipe standardization and putting together training guides for new dining venues or concepts on campus.

Accomplishments

My greatest accomplishment from my experience thus far was when I had the opportunity to work the Order of the Knoll event this Fall. This event celebrated some major donors that have helped to support Iowa State University and its students. Prior to the event, I helped prepare different components for dishes that would be served at the event. During the event, I was able to be in charge of my own station which was a very cool experience! It was awesome to attend this event and have exposure to an event of this scale. I have never worked an event this large in any of my previous work experiences and I look forward to working similar events like this in the future.

What advice would you give?

My main advice for students is to keep an open mind and to try to learn as much as possible from an internship experience. I would also advise them to think outside of the box and try something out of their comfort zone. Every experience you can obtain is valuable and can be used to aid you in your future as an event professional!
