My responsibilities during my internship include attending weekly team meetings, followed by pulling the rentals for the weekend and loading the vehicles in preparation for the weekend. Each week we are either assigned to be on set up and tear down for the events, or to be an assistant coordinator. Responsibilities during set up/tear down include assisting in setting up wedding ceremonies and receptions, flipping rooms from ceremony to reception during cocktail hour, and ensuring that every detail is picture perfect. The responsibilities that I have as an assistant coordinator include attending the rehearsal, ceremony and reception, assisting the wedding party and immediate family with any questions they may have and helping everything run smoothly.
My greatest accomplishment during my internship experience so far has been being able to answer questions that the bridal party has without having to ask someone else for the answer. I know it may seem small, but as an intern, anything that I do independently feels like a big deal!
One of the greatest lessons that I have learned from my experience is that everyone who told me that in the wedding industry there are only bridezillas and evil mother of the brides was so wrong. I have had nothing but positive interactions with everyone that I have had the pleasure of working with, which has made me feel even more confident in my career path.
What advice would you give?
It's completely normal to feel like you know literally nothing, no one actually knows what they're doing right away. Just help in any way that you know, and you'll get the hang of things quickly.
