I am currently an intern for Marshalls women's sportswear planning and allocation department, in which I: Analyze and interpret data in order to find the best strategy for allocating to stores, and actually shipping out the products according to this plan. Working along side analysts in their daily tasks of shipping, listing, market research, etc. Discovering trends and patterns from competition and past sales to suggest improvements for future buys and presenting these findings to the buyers.

My greatest accomplishment during my internship was when my suggestions and findings on a project were highly viewed by the buyers and moved to product development. Alongside with the other interns in my department, we were assigned the task to find new unique stripe patterns to elevate a basic tee. In doing so we pulled together a powerpoint consisting of market research from competing industries and ended with our recommendations based on our findings. The buyers told us how impressed they were with our professionalism and presentation. They loved our suggestions and told us they would send it over to product development to see how to make some of them come to life.

Learning experience

The greatest lesson I learned from my experience is to take every opportunity you have. You may never have the chance to be in such of a learning environment in a work setting again. I have learned that failing is never as bad as it seems, there is always a solution. If you fail, use it as a learning experience and to better yourself. If you don't make mistakes you can never learn.

What advice would you give?

Get as involved as you can in this experience. Ask questions, when you're confused or even when you're just interested and want to learn more. Make as many connections as you possibly can, this will make the internship so much more meaningful and relationships are so beneficial for your future. Take this all in as a learning experience and gain as much as you possibly can from it.
