I was the conference services intern and my main responsibilities during my internship included assisting with the planning and coordination of meetings and events, participating in client consultations, entering information into EMS before and after events, making sure everything was ready for the events, and supervising/executing events successfully. Towards the end of my internship I was actually able to assist with the entire planning process of an event and was completely in charge.
My greatest accomplishment from my experience was just gaining more confidence in myself and discovering what I want to do after I graduate. During my internship I was able to run and supervise my own events, which was very scary at first but ended up being a lot of fun. I learned to trust myself and that I am able to be on by own.
What advice would you give?
My advice for future students would be to do as many internships as you can in different areas of the industry. Internships give you the best experience and you learn so much from them. Not only do you learn a lot of new skills but you also learn what you do and don't like about the different areas of the event industry. You can learn so much from an internship and they are so helpful in getting jobs after you graduate.
