Responsibilities

During my internship I was responsible for assisting the club coordinators in putting on multiple events for members and their guests. I helped organize golf tournaments, fundraisers, high school dances, member events, and a lot of weddings. The Club at New Seabury has two wedding venues on site and therefore I got a lot of experience in the wedding industry. I met with couples to give them venue tours, I sat in on detail meetings and tastings, and was there to help coordinate on the day of. In this role I also helped send out inquiry letters to brides interested in our venues, as well as put together quotes and invoices.

Accomplishments

My biggest accomplishment was when I was able to give a site tour by myself. For the first month or so I shadowed one of our coordinators and just followed along on visits. Eventually, I was able to take that task off of my supervisors' hands so that they could focus on other things. This was a big deal to me because it showed that I was knowledgeable enough on our venue and menus to answer questions when needed. This also showed that my supervisors' trusted me, which meant a lot.

Learning experience

I learned a lot about professionalism during this experience and how to serve people with a servant's heart. It is not always easy to cater to people every part of every day, but nonetheless you have to show up and do it anyways with a happy heart. I also learned how to build genuine relationships with my coworkers as well as club members. This made my job so much more enjoyable.

What advice would you give?

My biggest advice when it comes to an internship is to make big goals and aim for them! Do not settle for an internship that does not interest you in a place that makes you miserable. If you have a dream, go for it! It was always my dream to live on Cape Cod for a summer and so I did everything in my power to find and internship there and here I am living out my dream! It will take a lot of determination and you may be told "no" by some companies, but do not let it get you down. Do not be afraid to reach out to companies who are not advertising for a position you are looking for, you would be surprised how people react if you genuinely are just interested in working for them!
