Responsibilities

Game operations at multiple Iowa State University Athletic events. Jobs include handing out credentials, delivering meals to the visiting locker room, setting up the terra-flex volleyball court, parking the visiting team buses and many more. The job also includes non-athletic event related things such as setting up the South Endzone club for events, graduation set up and tear down at Hilton Coliseum, building tailgating tents, gassing up the carts used for shuttling around people, and unlocking facilities for people to use.

Accomplishments

My greatest accomplishment in the job so far was the day I worked the TCU game. There was a 2 hour delay, which increased the amount of things needed to be done by my group of interns that had assigned work that day, so at the end of the day around 6:30 when I was finally home after arriving at 7 that morning, I was confident in how good I did.

Learning experience

The most important lesson I have learned is to always expect the unexpected. This football season has supplied us with the worst weather in the history of the program since I have been a fan in my 22 years of life. I have just expected at this point to get wet, be cold, and be in need to do a little extra in comparison for what I was planning on doing that day.

What advice would you give?

My advice is to always come prepared for a tough day, so when that tough day actually comes, you'll be ready to take it on with ease. After working that tough day, the regular days are even easier on you. You also have to take advantage of enjoying yourself in a job like this. It is an incredible experience being on the field during a game, so don't just ignore something so awesome right in front of you.
