Plagiarism checking
October 22, 2019One of the setting options available when creating a Canvas assignment that requires each student to upload a file, is to have the file sent through the TurnItIn plagiarism (citation) checker. After selecting this setting it is then necessary to indicate whether the student work will be added to the collection to which future submissions will be compared and to select which databases to compare the submitted work to. If the assignment is a final product, then you should store it for future comparisons. However, if it is a draft activity that the student will be refining and resubmitting, don’t save the submissions in the checker database. If you forget to turn on the plagiarism checker initially, edit the assignment settings after submissions are received and select it. If added after the fact, you’ll need to push each student’s file individually to TurnItIn by clicking the Resubmit to Turnitit button in Speedgrader.
